Tameside Primary School

Be the best that you can be!

Tameside Primary Academy is committed to helping our children receive an education to help them “be the best that they can be”

Our target for attendance this year is 96% and above.

It is the legal duty of all parents and carers to secure their child’s attendance at school. As well as being a legal requirement this also helps them to have the best possible start in their life.

There are 175 non-school days per year for holidays, shopping and appointments.

If a parent fails to secure their child’s attendance at school they may be referred to the Local Authority Attendance and Prosecution Service and could be issued with a penalty notice and/or legal proceedings being considered.

Remember that before booking a holiday you may be at risk of a fine if you take you child out of school during term time. This is £60 per parent per child and if it is not paid in 21 days it will rise to £120.

As a result of working together with parents and carers we are helping to improve out school attendance. We hope by continuing to work closely with our children and families we aim to improve further by July 2018

Good Attendance

Attending school and receiving an education will help your child have the best possible start for their life journey. Children who do not attend school may:

  • Fall behind in their work

  • Find it difficult to make and keep friends

  • Be unhappy at school

A good education is key to success and opportunities later in life. And as a parent you can help by:

Telephone or text school by 9.30 am to let us know if they will be absent. Please call everyday your child is to be absent.

If your child is in either the amber or red zone we will require medical evidence to authorise the absence in the form of a medical appointment card, prescription label, pharmacy first label or any medical correspondence. Don’t miss school for minor illnesses or stay away for longer than necessary.

The following leaflet has been produced to help parents and carers decide whether their child is well enough to attend school

If you are concerned about health issues impacting on your child's attendance then the school can support by making a referral to the school health team. If you would like to speak to someone, please contact the office who will arrange for someone to be in touch.

Medical Appointments

Where possible, please try to make appointments outside of school hours. If this is not possible please bring the appointment card to the school office so that it can be documented and the absence authorised.

Be Organised!

Pack school bags and get uniform ready the night before. Being prepared means that you are much less likely to be late in the morning

Problems or Worries

Talk to school of there is anything making it difficult getting to school. We can help but only if we know about it! Staying away from school because of a problem only makes it worse.

If you need any support or help in getting your child to school on time every day please contact the office who will get someone to make contact with you.

Leave in Term Time

As you may be aware, the Governing Body are no longer able to authorise leave in term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. Any holidays taken will be recorded as unauthorised and a referral will be made to the Attendance and Prosecution Service.

The Attendance and Prosecution Service may then issue a fixed penalty fine. The current levels are £60 per parent, per child. If this is not paid within 21 days, it rises to £120 per parent, per child.

We ask that you please keep family holidays to the same dates as the school holidays which are published on this website for this current academic year and the next.

If you still decide to take a holiday or leave in term time, we request that you still complete a request for leave form and ensure that it is returned to school at least 4 weeks prior to the first day of absence so that we can accurately record the absence to safeguard your child.

We do understand that there will be times when leave cannot be planned, e.g. emergency situations. Please ensure you contact the school and inform us of any absences in these circumstances.
